According to an article on Engadget, Verizon will begin deploying their 100G Network across the United States as soon as 2009… wow.
Apparently, Verizon has already tested the transmission capabilities which were considered a success: they achieved the 100 Gigabytes per second communication from Tampa to Miami Florida without disruption of competing signals.
While previous estimations were that a 40G network would be the next standard, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) has already set the bar at 100G and dropped a 2009 or 2010 estimation date.
With that being said, Verizon appears to be the first company making a public run at deploying the increased speed nationally. Now remember, this isn’t for your MOBILE network but regardless, it is encouraging to see Verizon holding the torch in data speed. I mean… 100Gbps? That’s fast…
Word on the street (via engadget) is that Verizon will be offering unlimited calling, data and messaging packages in the very, very near future (as early as 2/19/08).
Engadget is reporting the packages might look like this:
- $100 - Nationwide Unlimited (voice)
- $120 - Nationwide Select Unlimited (voice, SMS, MMS)
- $140 - Nationwide Premium (voice, SMS, MMS, VZNav, VCAST, email)
- $150 - Nationwide Email and Messaging (voice, SMS, MMS, and data)
- $170 - Nationwide Global Email and Messaging (voice, SMS, MMS, and international data)
- $200 - Family plan with two lines, $100 per additional line.
A few more of the perks for the new Verizon plans rumored are:
- The 5GB limit on data transfer per month is out the window
- Current customers will not have to extend their contract to receive these benefits
- It will be made available on both one or two year agreements
- All plans include Mobile Web 2.0 portal access (skip it)
- No roaming or long distance
Wowzers… this is some good news for the Verizon faithful out there. And if it’s true, props to Verizon for catching up with consumer demands.

Soon to be Verizon Voyager owners have been in a frenzy these past few days and we’re here to clear up the rumors and mis-information that seems to be floating around the Internet. People have called customer support, chat support, e-mail support and even contacted individual stores for clarification but all they’ve received are conflicting reports. Well, we’ve got the answers you’re looking for.
I just got off the phone with Howard Waterman who is the Northeast Area Manager for Verizon Wireless. I voiced the concern our forum members have had regarding no uniform disclosure of shipment dates for Pre-Orders. Here is the definitive response: Pre-Orders of the Verizon Voyager will begin shipping on Monday, Novemeber 19th for arrival on Wednesday, November 21st. He cannot promise that every last person will get their phone - there are always extenuating circumstances and the demand has been outrageous. But he wanted to reaffirm all readers that Verizon is making every effort to get everyone their phones as soon as possible, but most importantly, they WILL begin shipping on Monday, November 19th.
Mr. Waterman was upbeat and excited, with good reason - he was having the conversation from his Verizon Voyager! He was interested in hearing feedback about the Pre-Order process and was concerned that people were considering canceling their pre-orders. I have set up a Voyager Pre-Order Poll and Thread so you can vote on your experience with the Pre-Order process as well as voice your opinion. I know that Verizon appreciates our help - they are reading the responses - and it will only improve the process for future customer support.
